A grassroots group is hoping to develop a new community-driven vision for Hamilton transit.
Hamilton Transit Users Group is conducting an online survey and meeting with community groups to develop a plan for improving public transit over the next decade.
Group spokesperson Peter Hutton notes the city itself acknowledges it won't be able to meet its goal of doubling ridership by 2020 on its current path.
Rather than waiting for the city, Hutton said the transit group is proactively asking residents how they would improve the system to increase its use.
"We're trying to stimulate some public dialogue," Hutton said.
He noted the transit group wants to focus on realistic suggestions the city could implement in the coming years.
Once the consultation is complete, Hutton said the group plans to report the results to city council in late fall.
The work is being funded by a grant from the Hamilton Community Foundation.
